Full Synthetic or Semi Synthetic?

Both lines are API SP and both carry the same additive chemistry. What separates them is the base oil they are built on, and that decides where each one earns its price.

Our full synthetic grades run on Group III and Group IV synthetic base stock. Group III is a severely hydrocracked mineral base whose contaminants have been processed out; Group IV is polyalphaolefin, built molecule by molecule. Both give a more uniform molecular structure than conventional base oil, and that uniformity is what holds viscosity steady at temperature extremes and resists oxidation over a long drain. If the vehicle runs extended drain intervals, tows, sits in stop-start traffic, or has a turbocharged direct-injection engine, the full synthetic is the grade that pays for itself.

Our semi synthetic grades blend synthetic base stock with conventional mineral oil. They meet the same API SP requirements for wear protection and deposit control, and for a workshop running standard drain intervals on ordinary duty they do the job at a lower cost per litre. The trade-off is narrower margin at the extremes: less oxidation stability late in a long drain, and less stable viscosity under sustained high load and high ambient temperature.

For a high-throughput service bay the practical answer is usually both: semi synthetic as the everyday fill, full synthetic for the vehicles whose manuals call for it and for customers buying on interval length rather than ticket price.

What API SP Means

Every grade in the range is API SP. It is worth knowing what that category actually certifies, because it is the shorthand a manufacturer's manual uses.

API service categories describe what a gasoline engine oil has been tested to do. SP is the current category, introduced in 2020, and it supersedes SN and SN PLUS. It is backward compatible: where a manual calls for SN, SM or an earlier category, an API SP oil of the correct viscosity grade meets it.

SP tightened three things over the category before it. It added a test for low-speed pre-ignition, the abnormal combustion event that turbocharged direct-injection engines are prone to and that can destroy a piston in a single occurrence. It added a timing chain wear test. And it raised the bar on deposit control and oxidation resistance, which is what allows the longer drain intervals modern manufacturers publish.

API SP is a performance standard, not a manufacturer approval. SIMCOE formulates to meet it and does not hold licensed OEM approval marks. Where a manual names a specific manufacturer specification alongside the API category, follow the manual.

Packs, Part Numbers and Documentation

The Endura Series ships in 5 litre packs, which is 5.28 US quarts. Every grade carries its own part number, listed on its product page and on the quote, so repeat orders and stock reconciliation do not depend on describing the oil in words.

Quotations are issued in case and pallet quantities, in USD or CAD. A certificate of analysis is issued per production batch, giving measured kinematic viscosity at 40°C and 100°C, viscosity index, HTHS, flash point, pour point and total base number for the batch you actually received rather than a generic typical-properties sheet. Request the current batch report from the lab reports library.
